Hiding His Word in their Hearts

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. – Psalm 119:105

Last week, Gladys and Pastor Henri Gaetjens visited the staff of Cross International at our South Florida offices. This amazing husband and wife team serve at Canaan Orphanage in Montrouis, Haiti, and they have been trusted ministry partners of Cross since 2001. Their visit was a blessing to us all! We were inspired by their passion for Haiti’s most vulnerable children, and their personal stories of God’s faithfulness were encouraging.

I had the privilege of visiting Canaan in December, and I can’t say enough about the impact Gladys and Pastor Henri having on the hearts, minds and lives of the orphans and vulnerable children in their care. They put high priority on teaching biblical truth and memorizing Scripture because they know God’s word will benefit children for the rest of their lives.

On my visit, many of Canaan’s children were eager to recite their favorite Bible verses to me. I could see the love of Jesus in their eyes as they recited the verses they worked so hard learn. What a beautiful memory!

“We are imparting the Word of God on them now; and when they are older, it will be a good thing,” Gladys told me.

Gladys and Pastor Henri know the key to true success: a close relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Because the children of Canaan are hiding God’s Word in their hearts now, they will be prepared to live fruitful lives as adults, fully equipped to share the Gospel with everyone they meet.

The kids at Canaan remind me to fill my mind and heart with the things of God on a daily basis—and I hope they challenge you to do the same thing.  Please enjoy watching this video of 7-year-old Lovenus as he recites part of one of his favorite verses, Joshua 1:9, “The Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” He wants to share this special biblical message with you!
