Nguyet used to spend a good portion of her small income as a fruit-picker on water. It took six large containers a day to meet the needs of her and her three small children. And it wasn’t that great. It had a lot of iron and sediment. “I would let a can of water settle for 3 days, then take water off of the top,” she said.
When SoMedCo, our ministry partner in Vietnam, helped the neighborhood church install a well with a built-in water filter, Nguyet was puzzled to hear she could just help herself. It couldn’t possibly be free to anyone who wanted it. But it was. That is how the church demonstrated Christ’s love to its community. “I tried to pay for the water,” she said, “but nobody would take my money!”
