Wisely Using Our Resources

As a woman who enjoys a good sale, I’m always trying to get more “bang for my buck” by shopping at stores that offer discounts, deals and promotions. Not only do I want to make my money go farther, but I want to honor God as I manage the resources he has entrusted to me.

At Cross International, we also want to use God’s resources wisely. We are constantly looking for opportunities to get more “bang for our buck” while empowering the church to help poor families in developing countries.

One way we maximize resources is through shipping goods-in-kind (GIK) to our ministry partners. By sending donated medical supplies, nutritious food, water, clothing and shoes, building materials, personal hygiene items and other supplies, we are able to cost-effectively help the needy.

Here’s how it works: all of the supplies are packed into 40-foot containers, placed on a cargo ship and sent to international ports. Once the shipment arrives at its destination, our staff relies on a global network of trusted partners to get these products into the hands of Christian schools, faith-based hospitals, orphanages and churches who pass them onto needy families in impoverished communities.

For every dollar spent shipping GIK around the world, the poor receive 10 times that amount in aid and supplies. That’s what I call bang for my buck!
